PSYCHOLOGY OF ASTHMA LAB
Welcome to the Psychology of Asthma Lab at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology! This lab is directed by Dr. Jonathan Feldman.
We are located in the Bronx, the epicenter of the Asthma crisis, which disproportionately impacts members of our local community. They face the highest rates of diagnosis and morbidity within the United States.
We work with local Pulmonary and Primary Care Physicians (Adult and Pediatric) to identify barriers to effective disease management. Our focus is on the impact of culture, health beliefs, and psychiatric disease on asthma self-management in Latino and Black patients with asthma. Our goal is to develop behavioral interventions that improve medication adherence, symptom perception, asthma control, and quality of life for pediatric and adult patients. Current studies include examining voice biomarkers in asthma control, mobile health interventions for asthma management, and longitudinal associations of depressive symptoms, behavioral factors, inflammatory measures, and asthma outcomes.
